Protesters had vowed to stage a protest today, Saturday, 13 February 2021 following the re-opening of the Lekki Tollgate on the order of the Judicial Panel.
The Lagos Judicial Panel approved the reopening of the Lekki Tollgate after months of investigating the 20 October 2020 shooting
The police had warned people to stay away from the tollgate and took over the place since last night, but some protesters under #OccupyLekkiTollgate still found their way to the area and were arrested.
They were taken away in a Black Maria allegedly belonging to the Lekki Concession Company, LCC.

About 18 protesters were reportedly arrested by heavily armed policemen. One of the coordinators of #OccupyLekkiTollgate, Kunle Ajayi, said many of his people have been arrested by the police and put in a Black Maria and are about to be taken to an unknown destination.
At around 9:30 am, the police arrested some suspected protesters and while being dragged into the Black Maria, one shouted repeatedly, “what have I done? Can’t I Walk in my own country?”
One of the arrested suspects identified himself as Christopher, saying he is a site engineer going to Lekki who just got picked up.
