Naomi Osaka is the first Japanese woman to win the US Open and she defeated Serena Williams to do so.

Osaka has said that Serena Williams is her idol and she even wrote an essay in third grade about her. The match, however, was controversial. She defeated Serena Williams 6-2, 6-4 to win the US Open which would have Serena’s 24th grand slam title.

During the game, Serena was given a point then a game penalty, and she criticised the umpire for what she described as sexism. After the match, Serena was fined for violating code violations.

An emotional Osaka had apologised to the crowd for her win after they kept booing, thinking it was directed at her.
