Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has accepted a one-year suspended sentence for a long-standing tax fraud case.

According to El Mundo newspaper, the Portuguese coach was also fined about €2m.

Mourinho who claimed earlier to have paid all the taxes he owed was accused of owing the Spanish state almost £2.9m in undeclared revenue relating to image rights in 2011 and 2012 when he was the manager of Real Madrid.

“The chosen one” as he is fondly called by his supporters is not expected to spend any time in jail as first-time offenders in Spain are allowed to serve their sentence on probation as long as it is a sentence of fewer than two years.
