Legendary Raggae singer, Majek Fashek is dead

Nigerian Reggae singer, Majek Fashek has died at the age of 57, his manager announced on Tuesday 2 June 2020. 

Majek Fashek, whose real name is Majekodunmi Fasheke, toured all over the world with his reggae music and released hits such as ‘Prisoner of Conscience’ and ‘Send Down the Rain’, died in New York on Tuesday, his manager, Omenka Uzoma Day has said.

Uzoma made the announcement on Fashek’s Instagram page, writing that the singer died in New York, not London where he had previously been receiving treatment.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker, Day said.

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

Majek Fashek started his career in the 80s with the group Jastix, before he went solo. He enjoyed an illustrious career until drug use and bankruptcy ruined his career.

Although he tried to make several comebacks, things never remained the same. He is survived by his ex-wife, Rita and three sons.
