Kanye West confirms conversion to Christianity

American rapper Kanye West has confirmed that he is a “recent convert” to Christianity.

This is not exactly surprising given the artist’s Sunday service tradition. His much anticipated upcoming album, Jesus Is King, is also a big giveaway. Moreover, some fans might have also been aware that Nicki Minaj once said during an interview with Chance The Rapper, that Kanye had at one time confided to her that he is a born-again Christian. But this is the first time we are hearing it from the horse’s mouth so to speak.

Kanye West made the explicit pronouncement during a surprise appearance at the Howard University in Washington D.C., the venue of a listening party, for his upcoming album.

In a video obtained by TMZ, and shared on YouTube, Kanye West says:

I want to let you know that I am not here for your entertainment this afternoon, we are here to spread the gospel.

Excuse me if I mispronounce anything, I am a recent convert. It means I recently got saved within this year.”

That announcement marked the first time that Kanye has publicly spoken about his conversion.

Just last week, he accompanied his family to Armenia, where his wife, Kim Kardashian and their children were baptised. Kanye doesn’t seem to have partaken in the ceremony in which Kim’s sister Kourtney and her kids were also baptised.

Kanye’s album, Jesus Is King, is expected to drop any time now after missing its proposed 27th September release date.
