The 56-year-old actor is reportedly negotiating with Paramount to play Robotnik, a villain in the adaptation of the hit Sega video game.
Jim would be joining James Marsden and Tika Sumpter who are already a part of the cast of the film.
The film is set to follow Sonic as he works to stop Dr Eggman from completing his plans for world domination.
Paramount secured the film rights to the 1991 hit Sega game last year.
The film is set to be released on November 15 2019 and will be the first time the game has ever been adapted into a movie.
