While we are still celebrating Janelle Monae for her role in DC’s Harley Quinn standalone movie, she has landed a major role in the forthcoming biopic about the famed abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

The 32-year-old singer will star alongside the likes of Leslie Odom Jr, Joe Alwyn, Jennifer Nettles, Clarke Peters and Vanessa Bell Calloway. The film titled Harriet will dive into the life of Tubman, from escaping slavery to becoming a conductor on the Underground Railroad and successfully leading dozens of slaves to freedom during the pre-Civil War era.

Harriet – which will be Janelle’s latest film since starring in 2016’s Hidden Figures and Moonlight is due to begin filming in Virginia later this month. It  will be directed by Kasi Lemmons, who also co-wrote the script with Gregory Allen Howard
