The film earned $180 million in its first weekend in theaters. It is also in third place among the biggest opening weekends of the year, just behind Black Panther ($202 milion) and Avengers: Infinity War (257.6 million). The previous animation record-holder was Finding Dory (Disney) with $135 million in 2016.
The first Incredibles film released in November 2004 in the United States made around $70 million during its first weekend on the cinema screens, before eventually wrapping up with revenues of $633 million.
Incredibles 2 comes 14 years after The Incredibles and picks up right where the first film left off with the superhero family.
