Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie has, in an interview with i-D’s Candice Carty-Williams, revealed the reason behind her choice of fashion.

“I decided to use fashion as a kind of political statement,” Chimamanda reveals, “which is to say that I made the choice to wear mostly Nigerian designers to public events, because obviously I want to support an industry that’s full of talent, but also to make a case for how fashion can tell a story. Fashion and culture are intertwined in very interesting ways.”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has continued to use her Instagram page to showcase her love for Nigerian fashion brands.

i-D is a British magazine focused on fashion, style, and contemporary culture. Founded in 1980, i-D is known for the ‘straight up’ photography style, which it pioneered, as well as its iconic “wink”, which appears on nearly every cover. Since 2012, i-D has been owned by Vice Media.
