Vic Mensa has addressed the growing controversy surrounding his BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher performance, which airs on 16th October.

At the taping of the 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards with X’s mother in the crowd the rapper condemned hip-hop artists accused of domestic violence such as the late XXXtentacion.

On Instagram, Vic stood by his condemnation of alleged abusers in hip-hop, stating that he recorded the freestyle weeks ago and was unaware that XXXTentacion’s mother would be in the audience to honour her son.

In the Instagram caption, he added: “Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have the talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.
