It is 25 years since actress Gabrielle Union was a victim of rape and the actress is turning the experience into a powerful tool to help other victims.

A young 19-year-old Gabrielle Union was raped at gunpoint while working at a Payless ShoeSource.

She first shared the traumatic experience in 2014 and her new memoir We’re Going to Need More Wine also details the experience. The book has inspired the celeb to help others come forward with their own stories.

Recalling the experience, the actress writes on Instagram alongside a selfie: “#TimesUp #WhyWeWearBlack This year marked the 25th anniversary of my rape. #MeToo I know I am not alone. Together we can eradicate sexual violence, harassment and abuse. Together we can have true equality.

Together we can dismantle white supremacy and racism. Together we can centre the voices of the most marginalised among us. Together we can acknowledge the jig is up and its BEEN time for a monumental sweeping change. #TimesUpNow
