Heart to heart: Caring (or not) for friends during the Coronavirus lockdown

In the middle of the pandemic, people have lost quite a lot, including their jobs, loved ones, and a little bit of their sanity. A lot of people are trying to keep their mental health in check while dealing with the fallout from the virus.

Recently, the celebrity, Tia Mowry shared a now-deleted tweet to her followers, that they should check to see if their “real friends” check on them during the lockdown, and to “remember that when all this is over,” if they had not.

“During this pandemic, you really see who your real friends are,” she wrote. “Who’s checking up on you? Making sure are okay? Remember that when all this is over?”

Well, she didn’t get the response he expected as Twitter users immediately let her know that now is not the time to test friends for whatever reason. The world is in the middle of a global pandemic and people are dying and losing jobs.

everyone is stressed, Tia. Your real friends are also stressed, this is not a time to keep scores, everyone is going through it. Remember that.

So, what can we learn from Tia’s tweets and the responses to it? It’s that in the middle of this pandemic, you have to care for yourself before thinking about reaching out to anyone else.

How do you feed someone out of an empty plate? That is impossible!

The whole world is struggling to come to terms with the new arrangement of things, dealing with mental health issues and anxieties caused by the lockdown.

Focus on taking care of immediate family and on caring for the sick and on taking care of yourself and working on your mental health before thinking about going to refill someone else’s cup.

If you feel up to it, reach out to friends and offer emotional support. But if you can’t work up the strength to, then calm down and take care of yourself knowing that your real real friends will always be there for you, and will always understand.
