The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the release of 56 inmates from various correctional centres in the state.

The Governor also pardoned Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, JJC Skillz over their COVID-19 violations.

A statement signed by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, said Governor Sanwo-Olu acted based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, under the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 212 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

Funke Akindele and her husband were arraigned in April after hosting a party at their home on 5 April amidst COVID-19 lockdowns.
