George R.R. Martin has turned down a chance to appear in the final season of the much-anticipated Game of Thrones due to logistics reasons.

The eighth season of Game of Thrones will premiere on 14 April, with just six more episodes left of the current TV adaptation of Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novel series.

Martin said that Thrones‘ showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss invited him to the set in Northern Ireland last year so that he could make a special cameo in season eight.

“David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do,” Martin tells EW. “But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”
