According to Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index, Musk rose from fifth place to overtake Bernard Arnault, a French billionaire and CEO of the luxury brand Louis Vuitton after Tesla shares soared and earned him $8 billion in a single day.
Musk, now worth 84.8 billion dollars, sits behind Mark Zuckerberg, whose net worth currently stands at 99 billion dollars. Much of Musk’s net worth is tied up in his electric car company, Tesla, which has seen a growth of 300% in 2020 alone.
Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, the company has seen continued growth. In just the first half of 2020, the company sold more than 179,000 Teslas, selling three times more cars than its competitors in the electric car industry, according to Electrek.
Musk is also the CEO and founder of Space X, which made history last month by being the first company to send NASA astronauts to space in nearly a decade, according to FOX Business.
