The tiny pocket on your jeans that sits inside the actual pocket is called a fob pocket.
The fob pocket was originally designed in the 1800s to hold small pocket watches. Cowboys, carpenters, miners and railroad engineers used to wear their watches on chains and kept them in the pocket to prevent their watches from breaking.
Levi’s introduced this small pocket in 1879. According to The Levi Strauss blog, there were only 4 pockets on a pair of blue jeans, with the watch pocket included.
