Sometime around age 60, people may notice that they have lost some taste sensation.

According to the website, Comfort Keepers, the loss of taste sensation usually begins with salty and sweet tastes and then bitter and sour ones.

people are born with about 10,000 taste buds, but as a person ages, some of them die. By 60, only 5,000 taste buds may still be functioning. That’s why some foods may taste stronger to children than they do to an adult.
