Cicely Tyson to receive honorary award at the 2019 Oscars

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have just announced that come November 18, actress Cicely Tyson will receive an honorary award at the Oscars 2019.

According to People, Cicely will be the first black woman ever to receive an Oscar in an honorary category at the upcoming Governors Awards.

The 93-year-old, who was nominated for a statuette once before in 1973 for her performance in Sounder, has also been awarded a Tony, two Emmys, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama.

She’ll be recognized alongside publicist Marvin Levy and composer Lalo Schifrin.
