Award-winning and world-renowned author Chimamanda Adichie has narrated how she was sexually assaulted at 17.

Adichie made this known during a closing keynote speech at the just-concluded Stockholm Forum for Gender Equality.

She explained that the man who assaulted her was a powerful man in the media who she felt will help her with the book she just wrote.

She described her molester as pleasant and avuncular. The Americanah author further explained how she didn’t disclose the man’s deeds to any other person and continued talking to him because she thought he would help her.

She expresses her reactions after the horrible encounter as one of repulse and shock

“I was so shocked that I did nothing for seconds but then, I pushed his hand away, gently, nicely, because I didn’t want to offend him.

“Later that day, I broke out in a rash on my face, neck and chest, as though my body was recoiling, as though my body was saying what my lips had not said,” she says.

Watch video below. Chimamanda’s speech begins at 3:44:20 time mark.
