English Premier League side Liverpool performed something akin to a miracle at Anfield on Tuesday night as they beat Barcelona to qualify for the final of the Champions League.

Barcelona was the strong the favourite to advance to finals with their three goals margin going into the match but squandered their chance to advance.

Liverpool started strongly, with Origi capitalising on a Jordi Alba error to slam home from close range at the seventh minute of the game on Tuesday.

Hope was still high for Barcelona going into the second half as they seemed like they had weathered the storm. However, two goals from Georginio Wijnaldum in under three minutes sent the Catalans crashing down to earth, with their hearts in their mouths. Origi would strike again with the goal that would decide the tie on aggregate after Trent Alexander-Arnold caught the visitors’ defence napping from a corner.

The win means that Liverpool advanced to the Champions League final at Barca’s expense in a 4-3 aggregate win.

DEjected Messi would be missing the Champions League final as Barcelona fails to qualify

It also means that neither Messi nor Cristian Ronaldo would play at this year’s Champions League final, the first time neither of the players would be at the finals since 2013.
