Adele finally breaks silence on the public reaction to her dramatic weight loss during her recent tell-all chat with Oprah Winfrey in the famous rose garden. See other inspirational celebrity weight loss stories.
The interview, which aired on Sunday, is part of the CBS’ special, Adele One Night Only. Speaking on a wide range of subjects, including her soon-to-be-released 4th studio album, the “Hello” singer gave us a piece of her mind on the myriad of unwelcome comments - which neither fazed nor shocked her - concerning her new look. Adele, who has always been body positive, said she hadn’t set out to lose nearly 100lbs (45kg).
“My body has been objectified my entire career, I’m too big, I’m too small, I’m hot or I’m not. I never looked up to anyone because of their weight. I’m body positive then and I’m body positive now,” she said. Adele added that it isn’t her responsibility to validate how people feel about their bodies, concluding: “I feel bad if anyone feels horrible about themselves but that’s not my job. I’m trying to sort my own life out. I can’t have another worry.”
In this age of body positivity, bodyweight is a fairly sensitive matter. While it can be argued that there is a fine line between being body positive and unhealthy, the public does not take lightly to such conversations. It will explain why the Easy On Me singer got backlash for shedding some excess flesh. Little does it matter anyway, as everyone has their own choices to make about their bodies. In this article, we will look at some incredible celebrity weight loss journeys in recent times.

1. Melissa McCarthy - 50 pounds

Identity Theft star Melissa McCarthy has never shied away from sharing her weight loss journey. In a 2013 chat with US Weekly, she revealed how unstable her weight is, joking that she had been “every size in the world”. At some point, she lost 70 pounds within four months by doing an all-liquid diet, a routine that almost drove her crazy. Much later, in 2015, Melissa dropped 50 pounds by simply not worrying about her weight anymore. “I truly stopped worrying about it. I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked,” she told Life & Style.
2. Action Bronson - 127 pounds

American rapper and TV presenter Ariyan Arslani, better known by the stage name Action Bronson, revealed in a chat with Men’s Health in December 2020 that he got serious about his health earlier in the year during the COVID-19 lockdown and lost 127 pounds in nine months. Action, who said he was 400 pounds at his heaviest, remarked: “I’ve been a big boy my whole life and it got out of control. I got myself together and here we are in December and I’m 249 pounds this morning - shredded.”
3. Shonda Rhimes - 150 pounds

The brain behind some of the most successful shows in recent TV history, like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away with Murder, also had her struggle with excess weight. The TV producer focused on weight loss and only ate when she was hungry. She accompanied that by drinking a lot of water and hiring a personal trainer. Although she succeeded in losing 150 pounds, Rhimes admits to not liking the process at all. In a 2017 newsletter, she wrote: “Losing weight is not a topic I like discussing. Why? Because there is nothing fun or interesting or great about it. I hated losing weight. I hated every single second of it. And I hate every single second of maintaining my weight, too.” That’s a tough one, Shonda.
4. Bronson Pinchot - 60 pounds

Pinchot is another celebrity who seized the opportunity to shed some weight during the Coronavirus lockdown. For the Perfect Strangers star, all it took to spark his weight loss drive was a photo of himself from the 2017 reboot of Battle of the Network Stars. The photo essentially horrified him. He immediately cleared his kitchen of junk food and replenished it with healthy fruits and vegetables, and six months later, he was 60 pounds lighter. Now a vegetarian, the actor says he now fits into clothes he wore in his mid-20s.
