A new Game of Thrones prequel is reportedly in the works according to a report by Deadline.

Set 300 years behind the events that happened in the Game of Throne series, the prequel will trace the glory days of House Targaryen and the beginning of its end.

The prequel is reportedly written by Game of Thrones creator Ryan J. Condal based on a book, Fire & Blood by Game of Thrones author, George R.R. Martin.

It is also said that HBO is very close to ordering a pilot of the show.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the project is actually a reworking of a rejected spinoff concept from Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman, which officially got the axe back in April. (Cogman is now serving as a consultant on Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings adaptation.)

The narrative seems to be supported by Martin who seems to have hinted at such a show in May on his Not A Blog site where he says that three Game of Thrones successor shows were “still moving forward nicely.” He also suggested that readers should “pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.”

Another show, which Martin has said he’s “not supposed to call The Long Night” seems to be the farthest along, with plenty of details (but no release date) available.

If confirmed, this will be the second Game of Thrones spinoff in the works. The first one is yet to be titled but has Naomi Watts starring as a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.

The original Game of Thrones capped off an eight-season run on HBO back in May.
