Nigerians spent over N304 million to Watch Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, the first seven days of the film release across cinemas in the country.
According to data provided by Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria on their website, Avengers: Endgame made N189, 570, 304 on its opening weekend, but the 7-day box office total from 26th April to 2 May was N304,986,201. This amount accounts for nearly 90% of the total box office take for the period, which was N342,282,389.
The best performing Nollywood film for the period under review is Wale Adenuga’s Knockout, which completed its second-week run and grossed N5,410,432 for this period. Knockout made nearly N16 million in its opening week.
So far, the three-hour long Marvel’s film has broken the record for the biggest opening in Nigeria, a title previously held by Black Panther which made N135.4 million in its first weekend.
Reports say that Avengers: Endgame has become the second-highest grossing film in the world, with an estimated $2.189 billion. This record was cemented by the $619.7 million it has grossed domestically, which also eclipsed the $600.8 million ‘Titanic’ grossed in its initial theatrical run after opening in December 1997.
