Sunday saw a host of African teams play to qualify for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022.
Mane scores as Senegal beat Guinea-Bissau
Sadio Mane’s goal was the difference as Senegal saw off Guinea-Bissau to secure qualification at the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Cameroon in 2022.
The Liverpool star scored in the 82nd minute, taking full advantage of a sending off of Jorge Nogueira that saw Guinea-Bissau reduced to ten men.
Africa’s highest-ranked team, Senegal, became only the second country to secure qualification to play at the finals after Cameroon who qualified as hosts.
The Teranga Lions have qualified with two games to spare having won all four matches so far in Group I, picking the maximum 12 points.
Mane also got on the score sheet from the spot in a 2-0 victory for Senegal in the reverse fixture on Wednesday.
Senegal will hope to break the duck and win the competition for the first time in their history having come close twice; first in 2002, with the team falling to Cameroon 2-3 on penalty kicks after a goalless draw in the final, before repeating the same feat at the 2019 edition, losing the final 0-1 to Algeria.
