Michelle Obama is excited that Viola Davis will play her in The First Lady series

The former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, has said that she is excited that Viola Davis will play her character in the coming series “The First Lady”.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mrs. Obama revealed that she was indeed honored to have Davis play her. “I feel that I’m not worthy,” she said.

The former First Lady also added, “I wish I could be better to live up to the character that Viola has to play, but it’s exciting.”

Viola Davis will be starring alongside O-T Fagbenle (who plays Barack Obama) and Lexi Underwood (who plays Malia Obama). Also, on the series are Michelle Pfeiffer (who plays Betty Ford), Gillian Anderson (who plays Eleanor Roosevelt), Aaron Eckhart (who plays Gerald Ford), Dakota Fanning (who plays Susan Ford), and many others.

Back in 2019 when the casts were announced, Davis said that she was a little scared of playing such an important role. However, it appears that the admiration is mutual on both sides.

Michelle Obama also believes that the actress will deliver exceptionally. “Anything Viola does, she does it with passion and vigor,” she told ET’s Kevin Frazier and his son, Reece during the chat. “And I know she will do no less for this role.”

The First Lady series will debut on Showtime but its release date has not been announced. Viola Davis’ performance in the 2020 American Drama “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” has been nominated at many film awards like the Golden Globe Awards, Academy Awards (Oscars), Screen Actors Guild Awards and so on.
