Aaliyah’s estate set to release the late singer’s songs on streaming platforms

In a recent update, the Aaliyah estate has revealed that putting the late singer’s songs on streaming platforms will take time but her fans should expect them soon.

This update comes after the estate’s failure to meet the Saturday deadline, when Aaliyah would have turned 42. Fans of the late singer have repeatedly called for her songs on streaming platforms.

Billboard confirms that only her debut album “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number” is available for streaming.

In a statement, Aaliyah’s estate wrote:

“We hear you and we see you. While we share your sentiments and desire to have Aaliyah’s music released, we must acknowledge that these matters are not within our control and, unfortunately, take time.

“Our inability to share Aaliyah’s music and artistry with the world has been as difficult for us as it has been for all of you. Our priority has always been and will continue to be Aaliyah’s music.

“In the meantime, however, we are working diligently to protect what is in our control — Aaliyah’s brand, legacy, and intellectual property,” the statement continued. “In doing so, we will continue to release unique and exciting projects to keep Aaliyah’s legacy and light shining.”

Aaliyah died in 2001 at the age of 22 in an aeroplane crash. She has been credited for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop, earning her the nicknames the “Princess of R&B” and “Queen of Urban Pop”.

She also played movie characters in 2000 “Romeo Must Die”  with Jet Li and 2002 “Queen of the Damned” with Stuart Townsend.

Since her death, her uncle and founder of Blackground Records, Barry Hankerson, has been in charge of her music catalogue.

Aaliyah’s first album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Her second album, One in a Million, which sold three million copies in the United States and more than eight million copies worldwide.

In 2001, she released her self-titled third and final studio album, which topped the Billboard 200. Death did not stop Aaliyah from further music success. Her estate released some of her songs posthumously and she has won several awards including:
