TV dramas Fat Friends and The Syndicate; Kay Mellor, dies at aged 71.
Kay Mellor’s work on Coronation Street and Children’s Ward has received many awards, including an award from the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
Fat Friends is a slimming group in Leeds. The members include James Corden, Ruth Jones, and Alison Steadman who all-star alongside Mellor’s youngest daughter Gaynor Faye to make this hilarious show come alive on stage!
When Mellor appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in 2017, she chose The Beautiful South’s Perfect 10 as her theme tune. This song always made its way to her heart and brought back memories of going out with friends while listening together at home.”

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely and sudden passing of our beloved friend, mentor and colleague Kay Mellor on Sunday 15th May”.
“We have lost a phenomenal talent and a true luminary. We ask that you please respect the privacy of the family and friends at this time.”
Chief content officer of the BBC, Charlotte Moore was shocked and deeply sad to hear about Mellor’s death.
Kay was an outstanding writer and the creative force behind many of America’s best-loved television dramas. Her works have been seen on screens across this country, with strong female characters often taking centre stage in her stories that are filled with heart humanity humor passion for people who live life fully every day against all odds!
Melor and her husband Anthony were married. They had two daughters together, actress Faye (who also goes by the name Sheila stress) who is now 41 years old with kids of her own while YVONNE FRANCAS became a successful TV producer working on shows such as Cold Lazarus which she created alongside Hilary DAVIDOFF (Another shell shock).
Mellors life story deserves more than just being remembered through family members; this woman’s resilience amazed us all when we saw what tough times could do.
