Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Lorde who last released an album, her sophomore project “Melodrama”, in 2017, has finally given the green light concerning a new wave after fans have been waiting patiently.
The singer had confirmed that she’s working on a follow-up to ‘Melodrama’. However, it was not until Monday, 7 June 2021, when she teased an artwork, that hope was finally restored that something is happening soon musically.
It is still not certain if the ‘Solar Power’ artwork points to an album or new music. On her website, the artwork can be seen with the caption, “Arriving in 2021… patience is a virtue.”
Before Monday’s revelation, fans already started preparing for new arrivals from Lorde after she was announced to be the headliner at Barcelona’s 2022 Primavera Sound Festival, alongside Dua Lipa, The Strokes, Megan Thee Stallion, and many others.
Lorde had revealed in a hearty email to fans last year of ongoing works on her third studio album, but there’s been little to no information ever since.
She also revealed she would be working alongside ‘Melodrama’ collaborator Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift, Pink, Lana Del Rey, among others, on the new project.
She said, “A thing started to take shape. And then, of course, the world shut down. We’re still working away — Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer.”
She continued by saying, “In my opinion, the greatest treat I can give you is work that will last ten, twenty, thirty years. And that kind of work takes time. So if you can, I’d like for you to try tuning in to the time spent waiting for something of the highest quality to arrive. Enjoy the sensation as it builds. When the moment comes, our wave will crest super f—ing high. I can tell you, this new thing, it’s got its own colours now. If you know anything about my work, you’ll know what that means.”
