The circumstances under which Real Madrid won the champions league finals has been a hot topic for a while now. Many feel that the outcome might have been different had Salah not sustained a shoulder injury that saw him leave the game.
Amid all the side talk, Luka Modric who many regard as one of the best midfielders in the world, wants everyone to know that he feels his side really deserved the trophy.
Speaking at the Croatian Players’ Union awards ceremony, Modric said: “It seems we can’t make it without drama.
“But this time we’ve had the hardest route since I came to Madrid: French champions, Italian champions, German champions and then Liverpool.
“We really deserved the trophy.”
Modric, has lifted four Champions League trophies, one La Liga title and one Copa del Rey since joining Madrid in 2012. He also confessed that he would trade some of his Madrid trophies for one big one with Croatia.
“It was a very hard and long season, in La Liga and the Copa del Rey we did not play as is expected of us,” he said. In the end we won the trophy that is most important. I am happy to be part of this club and this success that will be remembered in history. [But] I would change some of the trophies I’ve won with Madrid for one big success with Croatia!”
