Several reports have indicated that their initial options Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp were deemed too expensive to release from their respective contracts at Tottenham and Liverpool.
Apparently, Guti has been under consideration for quite a while. He played for Real Madrid in his younger years and also has some experience coaching Madrid’s youth team just like Zidane.
The move was confirmed when the president of Spanish third division side Real Murcia, Victor Galvez said his club’s plans to appoint Guti as coach were disrupted because the former midfielder is set to take over at Real Madrid.
According to Galvez: “Guti won’t become Murcia boss because he’s going to become Real Madrid coach. He was the guy I wanted, and it’s a shame Zidane didn’t take a couple of days longer to make his decision. Guti called me to thank me for my interest.”
Reports from goal.com suggest that once appointed, Guti will “offload” Ronaldo, who he feels is at the end of his cycle at the Bernabeu, while up to four other players would also be allowed to leave.
This may not come as much of a shocker to Ronaldo who is already considering leaving the club, as he is said to be unhappy with the management among other reasons
