Royal engagement: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to wed in May 2018

Sure we won’t get an invite but that’s not stopping our natural desire to know all about the royal wedding

The details of the wedding were announced by Kensington Palace, a day after the engagement was made public. A tweet from the official handle of the Palace reads: “the marriage of Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle will take place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in May 2018.”

Harry’s communications secretary, Jason Knauf, also threw more light on the wedding arrangement. Meghan, a Protestant, will be baptized and confirmed before the wedding. She also intends to become a British citizen and will work towards the process, which is expected to take several years.

Knauf also says that the wedding will “reflects who they are as a couple.” For example, the location of the wedding, St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, is a “very special place” for the couple, Knauf reveals, explaining that they spent time there together since first meeting last July.

The couple, of course, wants the day to be a special, celebratory moment for their friends and family.

They also want the day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too and are currently working on ideas for how this might be achieved. This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters of the bride and groom.”

Monday was “an incredibly happy day” for the couple, Knauf adds, noting that the two were “overwhelmed by support from the UK and around the world” when it comes to their engagement.

As for their first royal event together, the Palace revealed on Tuesday that the couple will visit a Terrence Higgins Trust World AIDS Day charity fair in Nottingham on Friday, where they will meet representatives of organizations supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. Harry has been open about supporting the cause through the years, which is significant given his late mother Princess Diana’s unforgettable work for AIDS awareness.

The two will also visit Nottingham Academy to meet children benefiting from the Full Effect program, which aims to identify and support children and young people from becoming involved in youth violence and crime through a combination of early intervention, mentorship and training.
