He is the second child of Veronica Gutierrez and the only child she shares with former basketball player Melvin Booker. After playing college basketball for one season with the Kentucky Wildcats, he was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2015 NBA draft with the 13th overall pick. Booker finished with 70 points against Boston Celtics on 24 March 2017 to become the youngest player to score over 60 points in a game. Two years later, at 22 years old, Booker became the youngest player in NBA history with consecutive 50-point games.

Devin’s parents never married, and Devin visited his father only during his summer holidays. While there, they practiced basketball, and his father showed him the basics of the game.
