Breaking! President Buhari to address the nation by 8 pm

President Muhammadu Buhari will address Nigerians in a national broadcast at 8 pm on Monday, 27 April 2020, the Presidency has announced.

Today marks the end of the second 14-day lockdown the president placed on Abuja, Lagos and Ogun state due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is popularly known as Coronavirus.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation Monday, April 27, 2020, at 8 pm,” Garba Shehu, an aide to the president.

“Television, radio and other electronic media stations are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Televised Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” he adds.

The president is expected to give Nigerians an update on his government’s efforts towards containing the spread of the Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The highlight of the address will revolve around the president’s lockdown of Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Buhari had ordered all three locations locked down since March 30 to contain the outbreak.

Nigeria has recorded 1,273 coronavirus cases in 32 states and the FCT, as of 26 April.

However, many have expressed fears that any further extension will only worsen the situation in a country where almost half the population, estimated at around 200 million, is considered to be among the world’s poorest. Some are currently complaining on social media about the lack of food.
