In 2013, Olawale beat five other finalists with his final performance of Asa’s song, Beautiful to clinch the grand prize of N5m, a brand new car and a recording contract.
In an interview, Olawale said he had to swallow his pride to make things work for himself.
“I said to myself, ‘this car that I have if I sell it and use it to shoot a proper music video, the song might not even go far. Selling this car will not be an option for me’. I said to myself ‘you have to hustle’ because I started getting depressed at home. At the end of the day, I said to myself, nobody cares,” Olawale says.
