Stage director, Liesel Tommy, has been named to direct the biopic Respect out of honour for the late queen of soul music Aretha Franklin.

As announced by MGM on Thursday, Tommy will direct the film which will star Jennifer Hudson, a lead on-screen character to assume the role of Franklin.

Hudson was given a role as the late Queen of Soul in January 2018 after Franklin actually picked her for the job. At the time, Hudson played out a variety of Franklin’s tunes at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy slam.

Additionally Callie Khouri, who wrote 1991’s Thelma and Louise, will write the movie.
