Apple has reportedly cancelled its flagship TV show, Vital Signs, based on the life of Dr Dre due to its heavy focus on violence, sex and drug use.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, was distressed by scenes of drug use, violence and an orgy in Vital Signs, a new series inspired by the life of rapper Dr Dre.

The show was set to head a $1 billion line-up of original content for the Apple’s streaming service, but its programmes have been beset by delays, with controversial material cut by executives.

Despite cancelling the Dre show, Apple has signed up major players ahead of its foray into TV including Chris Evans, Oprah, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

The show would mark the second time that Dre’s life has been dramatised, after the 2015 NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton.
