Aliko Dangote has been named the richest man in African by Forbes, for the ninth time in a row.
In the recently released list, Dangote, who is the CEO/President of Dangote Group, topped the sixteen-person list which featured billionaires from only eight African countries.
Egypt and South Africa have five billionaires each, followed by Nigeria with four and Morocco with two.
Dangote and his 10.1 billion dollar fortune beat Egypt’s Nassef Sawiris who has a net worth of eight billion dollars. Dangote made his fortune from trading oil, sugar and cement as well as oil and gas.
Nassef Sawiris is a scion of one of Egypt’s wealthiest families. He is a businessman who recently won the bid for the takeover of the English club, Aston Villa.

Nigeria’s second richest man, Mike Adenuga tied with South Africa’s Nicky Oppenheimer for the third spot with both having a net worth of 7.7 billion dollars.
South African businessman and Chairman of Swiss luxury goods firm Compagnie Financiere Richemont, Johann Rupert clinched the fifth spot with a net worth of 6.5 billion dollars. His company is known for its brands, Cartier and Montblanc.
Nigeria’s richest woman, Folorunso Alakija, who made her money from oil, grabbed the last spot on the list with a net worth of one billion dollars.
