The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, has assured Nigerians that the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country will “disappear” this weekend.

Baru made the promise during a chat with newsmen shortly after he led a task force to close an illegal petrol station in Abuja on Wednesday.

So, if Nigerians become lucky, we’ll be celebrating the New Year with one less worry that shouldn’t have been in the first place.

I promise by the weekend, most of the abrasions we’ve been noticing will disappear”, the NNPC boss says.

You could see that we are winning the war. The fuel queues have significantly subsided in Abuja; In Lagos, they’ve almost become none existent and, of course, we are pushing it to the other cities as well as to the hinterlands.

Outside Abuja, we have gotten a lot of improvements. Also in terms of distribution, we are monitoring every dispatch from the depots and also from Suleija to the various centres,” he adds.

Meanwhile, the Senate has directed the NNPC boss and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu to appear before the Senate Committee Petroleum Downstream on 4th January 2018 in a bid to find a lasting solution to the problem.
