Premier League Roundup: Arsenal whitewashed by Aston Villa; Harry Kane stole a win for Tottenham

Ollie Watkins described his brace against the team he supports as “unbelievable” as Aston Villa outclassed Arsenal with a resounding 3-0 victory at the Emirate, lifting them into sixth on the Premier League table.

The home team conceded an own goal after Academy graduate Bukayo Saka fumbled the ball beyond Goalkeeper Bernd Leno into his own net after meeting a Matt Targett’s cross.

Watkins, on the back of scoring a hat-trick earlier this season against reigning champions Liverpool doubled Villa’s lead in the 72nd minute before completing his brace three minutes later, feeding off a delightful pass from Jack Grealish to make it 3-0.

The 24-year-old said after the game: “As an Arsenal fan to score here at the Emirates is unbelievable, I think I have another level.

“In the second half you saw what I’m about, getting the ball, setting and spinning and making defenders run towards their own goal – hopefully the more I can do that the more goals I can score,” he adds.

The former Brentford man has now bagged six goals in his debut Premier League season.

Premier League Matchday 8

Jose Mourinho was full of praise for Harry Kane’s “special” qualities after the Tottenham Hotspur captain’s 150th Premier League goal ensured the North Londoners earned all three points at the Hawthorns on Super Sunday.

Three victories in a row lifted Spurs to the summit of the Premier League table before Leicester City leapfrogged them after a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The game seemed to be heading towards a barren draw after Hugo Lloris had kept out Darnell Furlong’s header in the second half, with Tottenham themselves failing to convert from any of the chances that fell their way.

But Kane, like so many times in the past, stepped up for Spurs with only two minutes of regular time on the clock. He fed off a Matt Doherty’s cross to head in his finish, punishing a lapse in concentration by the home side.

Mourinho says after the game: “This guy does much more than scoring goals. For example, in the last five minutes he was playing as a number six and winning balls in front of the defence. Special.”

“Harry Kane you have to say has this many goals, this many assists, this number of balls recovered, this number of duels won. This number of balls that he saved his team in defensive set-pieces. This is Harry Kane. It’s goals plus this and this and this and that,” he adds.

The England captain’s latest feat comes just days after he scored his 200th goal for the club.

Defender Eric Dier paid tribute to his team-mate’s latest “fantastic record”.

He said: “He broke one in midweek and now he has another one. It won’t affect him too much, he will want another 150.”
