Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo is being investigated by the police in the city of Aosta for allegedly breaking Italy’s COVID-19 regulations during a ski trip.

An investigation is said to be underway by the Valle d’Aosta police into a trip to the Alpine town of Courmayeur by Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Videos circulating on social media showing the couple sitting on a snowmobile and celebrating Rodriguez’s 27th birthday alerted the authorities to his presence in the region.

Movement between orange zone regions in Italy, including Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta, is forbidden under the current government decree.

Should the five-time Ballon d’Or winner be found to have made the trip, the likeliest outcome is a fine.

There are some exceptions to the rule, including travelling to a second home or for work reasons so the superstar footballer might still have a way out.
