The federal government of Nigeria has commended three Nigeria females: Omotola Jalade-Ekeiende, Chimamanda Adichie and Mo Abudu for winning the Variety Awards.

The three celebrities are among 50 women named in the Variety Magazine’s 50 most influential women around the world, which the US magazine published in celebration of International’s Women’s Day 2018. It was the first time that Variety is producing such a list. The award recipients include trailblazers such as media mogul Oprah Winfrey, singer Adele, actress Lupita Nyong’o, reality tv star/businesswoman Kim Kardashian West amongst others.

In a statement released on the 11th of March, 2018 by the minister of information and culture Alhaji Lai Muhammed described the three women as iconic, calling them role models for the younger generation.

According to him, “Of more importance is the fact that these women’s achievements have transcended gender, nationality or race, placing them on the rarefied class of global, timeless achievers.”
