A statement from the club said: “Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
“A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager. ”
Mourinho who was made manager in May 2016 leaves the club in sixth place in the table having already lost five times in 17 matches, leaving them 19 points behind leaders Liverpool.
The story isn’t over yet as Paul Pogba reacted to his exit. Shortly after the announcement was made, Pogba took to his social media pages to share a picture of himself smirking at the camera. He captioned the photo: “Caption this!”
