British-Nigerian actress Cynthia Erivo has been deservedly nominated for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ EE Rising Star Award.
Erivo is nominated alongside Jessie Buckley (Beast), Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, American Animals), Lakeith Stanfield (Sorry To Bother You, Get Out, Atlanta) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Mirror).
This award has previously been won by Daniel Kaluuya in 2018 and John Boyega in 2016. The jury that selected the nominees included actors, Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), as well as acclaimed broadcasters, producers, casting directors and film critics.

The winner will be announced at the British Academy Film Awards on 10 February 2019.
Recall that Erivo had previously won a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy for her lead role in the Broadway revival of The Colour Purple.
