Coronavirus Nigeria Update: 315 new infections confirmed

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 315 new coronavirus infections were confirmed on 8th May 2020 in Nigeria.

The Centre released the data during its nightly update on coronavirus in Nigeria. Consequently, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria now stands at 12,801.

361 people have also died from Covid-19, the diseased caused by the virus while 4,040 people have recovered and been discharged from isolation centres across the country. The active number of cases stands at 8,400.

Tweeting the information via his official Twitter account, the NCDC revealed that Lagos State recorded 128 new cases, FCT (Abuja) 34, Rivers State 32, Edo State 28, Oyo State 22, Kaduna State 20 and Gombe State 13 cases.

Other states that recorded infections during the reporting period are Ogun (eight), Plateau (five), Delta (seven), Kwara (seven), Kano (five), Bauchi (four) and Katsina (two).

The NCDC also provided a breakdown of confirmed infections across the states. Lagos State remains the epicentre of the diseases with 5,895. Kano State has crossed the 1,000-mark and is second with 1,004, while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja is third with 986 cases. Cross River State remains the only state that has no confirmed coronavirus infection.
