Summary of the movie
According to the plot, Ella is an ambitious young woman who wants to establish her shop “Dresses by Ella” in her patriarchal society one day.
She catches the eye of Prince Robert in the guard-changing ceremony. He then visits her, pretending to be a commoner, and in turn, invites her for a ball.
Her stepmother tries to stop her from attending by ruining her dress, but her fairy godmother intervenes, and she gets to attend the ball. Ella meets the Queen, who sings her praises for her beautiful works and promises to show her off.
The Prince proposes to her, and she refuses. At the stroke of midnight, she had to leave, and the Prince steals her shoe to starts a search party for her afterwards.
Ella’s stepmother gives her hand to Thomas, the vegetable seller. While running from him, she meets the Prince, who takes her with him. Then they fall in love.
Cinderella reviews and reactions
The film comes from the mind of Kay Cannon, who also wrote 2015’s musical phenomenon “Pitch Perfect”. According to some reactions, “Cinderella” seems to be worth every hype.
Several takes underline the fact that the movie is a complete musical film, with as little dialogue as possible. The Daily Journal review reads in part, “the music is an element that blows this version of Cinderella out of the water.”
