Champions League Matchday 6: Cristiano Ronaldo breaks the duck against Barcelona in the Champions League; Plus other results

Juventus finished top of Group G courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s brace from the penalty spot, either side of Weston McKenna’s bicycle kick which condemned Barcelona to a 3-0 defeat at the Nou Camp.

Ronaldo took his Champions League goals tally to a whopping 134 with his first against Barcelona in the competition.

The Spaniards started the game with a three-point cushion but ended up suffering their first group stage defeat since 2016.

The game also marked the first time Ronaldo and eternal rival Lionel Messi have come face-to-face in the competition since May 2018.

Messi however did not have a night as memorable as his counterpart Ronaldo’s, with Juve’s veteran Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon frustrating the Argentine with a plethora of big saves.

Under-fire Barca boss Ronaldo Koeman was left furious, however, at the nature of his side’s display.

“The defeat was because of how we played in the opening 25 minutes,” Koeman said.

“We started badly, we looked scared, we weren’t aggressive. It looked as if we’d come out looking not to lose, as opposed to trying to control the game. We weren’t good, not even positionally.

“We got better but we lost the game in the first half an hour.”
