Lil Nas X drops mystic-themed music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” song

“Provocative!” most music blogs have said about the mystic-themed and symbolism-filled video that Lil Nas X dropped for his latest single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”.

The three minutes video is having the desired effects on listeners, that is, driving conversations on queerness and more.

The 21-year-old rapper and singer announced the self-titled single with a note to his younger self. He wrote;

“dear 14 year old montero [sic], i wrote a song with our name in it. it’s about a guy i met last summer. i know we promised to never come out publicly, i know we promised to never be “that” type of gay person, i know we promised to die with the secret but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist. you see this is very scary for me, people will be angry, they will say I’m pushing an agenda. but the truth is, i am. the agenda to make people stay the f___ out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be. sending you love from the future.”

Lil Nas X wrote the video script for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by himself and co-directed it with Tanu Muino. Saul Levitz, Frank Borin, and Marco De Molina served as producers while Mathematic was the brain behind the visual FX effects.

The video surpassed 2 million views on YouTube within 13 hours of its release and was trending online. Lil Nas X, who found fame with his 2018 country rap single “Old Town Road“, was obviously enjoying the effect that his latest video was causing. He tweeted a post about it from Facebook:

And even welcomed the conspiracy videos that will come as a result of it as well.

Highlights from the video include the rapper in the Garden of Eden succumbing to the snake and after receiving a kiss is bounded in chains in front of “a blue powdered wig council of five English dandies,” according to Billboard.

It seems he is judged to be innocent as he appears to ascend to heaven before taking a pole dance ride back to hell.  “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” video climaxes with Lil Nas X giving the devil a lap dance, snapping his neck and stealing his horned-crown to make himself the new king of hell.
