Sha’Carri Richardson finishes last, see most savage responses as video hits Twitter

Sha’Carri Richardson finished last in the race against three Jamaican Olympic medalists and five other lesser-known runners and Twitter users are rendering the most savage comments to the video.

The backstory to this Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, 21 August 2021, is that ‘America’s fastest woman’ was given the chance to prove that she would have made a difference had she gone to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. You likely already know the story behind Sha’Carri Richardson missing the competition.

Her failure to come between the Jamaican trio that swept Gold, Silver and Bronze has further cast doubts on whether the 10.64 seconds finish at the semifinal heat was a fluke. However, while she could not outrun her opponents on Saturday, she outtalked them.

“This is one race. I’m not done. You know what I’m capable of. Count me out if you want to. Talk all the s— you want. Because I’m here to stay. I’m not done,” the 21-year-old athlete said after bringing up the rear. Then, by way of a reminder, she added, “I’m the sixth fastest woman in this game ever. Can’t nobody ever take that from me.”

The replies to a Tweet of the race’s video features some of the most savage comments on Sha’Carri Richardson below-par performance.

One user, @lollypeezie, said: “Thought they said Jamaicans were winning medals at the olympics because she wasn’t there. Lmaoooooooooooo. [sic]”

Another person, @funnfoto, wrote: “That hair was holding her back Cat face with tears of joyCat face with tears of joy the weight and wind resistance was not aerodynamic.”

Meanwhile, majority of the jibes were video clips including:

But why are there so few sympathetic replies to Sha’Carri Richardson coming last in the Prefontaine Classic race? Most of the internet users making fun of her loss are doing so because they found her statements during the Olympics insulting, including this one:

While the criticism may seem justified, Richardson has always pushed the narrative that she is human. At 21 and literally famous overnight, she is likely still coming to terms with the fact that billions of people are watching what she says (and doesn’t say). Likely, she will watch her public statements from now on and react better when things are not going her way.
