The creators of Mortal Kombat 2021 have hinted that the next instalment will focus on the Johnny Cage character. Since this is the case, there have been inquiries into who will be cast as Cage in the next release.

As director Simon McQuoid agrees, the Johnny Cage character is so big that it deserves its own film focused on him. Professional wrestler The Miz has shown interest in playing the character and Screen Rant reports that co-creator Ed Boon is supporting him for the role. However, for a standalone film, it is difficult to see how The Miz will ensure its success without having a host of other characters to cover for him.
