This weekend saw the Finals of 2017 Wimbledon Tennis Championship played on the centre court.
In the Women’s Single category, five-time Wimbledon winner, American Venus Williams (37) played against Spain’s Garbine Muguruza (23). The American set a new age record as the oldest woman to play in the Wimbledon Finals in the Open era. Muguruza however, was the winner Saturday beating Williams in two straight sets 7-5, 6-0 to win the championship.
In the Men’s Single Category, Swiss Roger Federer battled against Croatian Marin Cilic for the honours. Federer, 35, also set a new age record as the oldest man since 1976 to play in the finals. Cilic was injured during the game in which he lost 6-3 6-1 6-4. “I never give up in a match. I gave it my best – it’s all I can do,” Federer called him “A hero”
