Roger Federer and Garbine Muguruza emerge winners of Singles categories at Wimbledon 2017

This weekend saw the Finals of 2017 Wimbledon Tennis Championship played on the centre court.

 

In the Women’s Single category, five-time Wimbledon winner, American Venus Williams (37) played against Spain’s Garbine Muguruza (23). The American set a new age record as the oldest woman to play in the Wimbledon Finals in the Open era. Muguruza however, was the winner Saturday beating Williams in two straight sets 7-5, 6-0 to win the championship.

 

 

In the Men’s Single Category, Swiss Roger Federer battled against Croatian Marin Cilic for the honours. Federer, 35, also set a new age record as the oldest man since 1976 to play in the finals. Cilic was injured during the game in which he lost 6-3 6-1 6-4.   “I never give up in a match. I gave it my best - it’s all I can do,” Federer called him  “A hero”
